Product Description

Wakasa Lacquerware Chopsticks:
These chopsticks are created using the Wakasa lacquerware technique. The thickness of the paint on the surface of the chopsticks is adjusted to create a gradation-like variation in color intensity.

Wakasa lacquerware refers to lacquerware produced in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture. It is said to have originated when Matsumura Sanjuro, a lacquer artisan of the Obama clan in the early Edo period, designed lacquerware based on the underwater scenery of Obama Clan's domain, inspired by Chinese lacquerware. At that time, chopstick production was not yet widespread, and items like Wakasa lacquerware trays, brushes, brush cases, and cherry blossom viewing lunchboxes were made. Over 200 techniques, including "raden," "makie," "foil stamping," and "kenage" were developed during the Edo period.

Some says 80% of lacquered Japanese chopstics are from this region.

Usage Instructions:
Due to the use of natural wood, avoid using in the microwave, oven, dishwasher, or dryer.
After use, wash with lukewarm water immediately. Since it's lacquerware, avoid using scrub brushes or abrasive powders, and use a soft sponge with neutral detergent for cleaning. After washing, thoroughly wipe off any moisture. Do not leave it in water or soak for an extended period; instead, drain as soon as possible. After use, wash with warm water and wipe with a soft cloth.

Storage Instructions:
Store in a place where direct sunlight does not reach to prevent discoloration. To prevent drying, store in a well-ventilated area.
